The HK MP7

The MP7 is an APDW (Advanced Personal Defense Weapon) machine pistol that aims to bridge the gap between the conventional machine pistol and the assault rifle. PDWs are intended to provide troops not directly employed in combat with a significant response capability. Officers, tank crews or artillery personnel do not need to carry an assault rifle, but must nevertheless be able to cope with an unexpected attack and defeat opponents equipped with flak jackets capable of stopping handgun ammunition.
The MP7 was the Heckler & Koch answer to this request. It is the second weapon put into production meeting this requirement, the first being the P90 of FN Herstal. The idea was to propose a light weapon firing small-caliber ammunition with a high muzzle velocity. The MP7 thus fires 4.6x30 ammunition  720 meters/second with a rate of 950 rounds per minute. The steel ammunition is capable of piercing a helmet or bullet-proof vest up to a distance of at least 200 meters (218 yards).

In the blog Defense Review, David Crane the authors said: ''When I shot the MP7 on semi-auto, from the shoulder, the super-light recoil actually took me a little by surprise at first, a pleasant surprise, if you will. On full-auto, the gun just stayed right on target the whole time, even during multiple-shot strings at 900 rounds-per-minute. Felt-recoil impulse was roughly half that of a 9mm subgun. Everyone DefRev spoke with who shot the MP7 came away extremely impressed with it. Most of these people were seasoned SWAT operators. ''

The MP7 is constructed of steel-reinforced polymer for the carcass.  Chargers that go in the grip can hold 20, 30, and 40 rounds. The MP7 is equipped with a second folding handle at the front and a telescopic stock at the rear. The weapon is particularly light and can, like the Uzi, be used with one hand, although the precision is very random. Moreover, the low recoil of the 4.6x30 ammunition makes the shooting particularly pleasant and precise.

The gas mechanism of the MP7 is a reduced version of that of the HK G36, which is very rare for a machine pistol generally operated by recoil. The weapon fires with the breech locked, which allows the use of steel projectiles with a high perforation capacity.

The MP7 is in service in more than 30 countries.

The public price is around 2000 euros.
